Welcome to the Aspen Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure®! The Aspen Affiliate was established in 1990 by Sandra Goldman Israel. Komen Aspen‚s tri-county service area includes the region from Battlement Mesa to Vail, CO as well as the Roaring Fork Valley. We are the only agency in our service area that provides grants and direct outreach to educate the public about breast health. Through our grants we are able to provide local women with low-cost or no-cost breast screening and diagnostics.
The Power of a Promise
Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded on a promise between two sisters.
We are a cause without borders.
Our People
As the face and voice of the global breast cancer movement, we have local Affiliates in 125 cities and communities, and advocates at the local, state and federal level.
About Komen
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.
In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
Her name. New logo, same vision. A world without breast cancer.
You may notice that we've changed our nameto Susan G. Komen for the Cureand created a brand new logo to match. We hope you like the new look. Even more importantly, we want you to understand the motivation for this significant change.
Simply put, it's our anniversary. We're 25 this year, and we're shifting into another gear. With renewed urgency and inspiration. With an energized commitment to finally, once and for all, finish what we started.
Our new name and logo symbolize who we are and what we stand for. "Susan G. Komen" reminds us of Nancy G. Brinker's promise to her sister Susan to do everything in her power to spare other women and men the agony of breast cancer. "For the Cure" reaffirms our vision of a world without the disease. The name conveys the original promise quickly and simply...Susan G. Komen = the Cure.
As Susan G. Komen for the Cure, we'll continue to be the world's largest, boldest and most progressive grassroots network of survivors and activists, the only organization fighting to cure breast cancer at every stage. To date, we've invested $1 billion in research, education and health services. And because so many millions of people are counting on us to fulfill our promise, we will invest an additional $1 billion over the next decade to do just that.
Our Promise
Our name may have changed, but our promise has not: to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Will you join us?

Breast Cancer Then and Now
For the past 25 years, Komen for the Cure has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancertransforming how the world talks about and treats this disease and helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. We are proud of our contribution to some real victories:
More early detectionnearly 75 percent of women over 40 years old now receive regular mammograms, the single most effective tool for detecting breast cancer early (in 1982, less than 30 percent received a clinical exam).
More hopethe five-year survival rate for breast cancer, when caught early before it spreads beyond the breast, is now 98 percent (compared to 74 percent in 1982).
More researchthe federal government now devotes more than $900 million each year to breast cancer research, treatment and prevention (compared to $30 million in 1982).
More survivorsAmerica's 2.3 million breast cancers survivors, the largest group of cancer survivors in the U.S., are a living testament to the power of society and science to save lives.
Seeing it Through
We view our 25th anniversary not as a celebration, but as a watershed moment in our fight to end breast cancer. It's a time to take stock of where we are, realign our resources and recommit to finally, once and for all, finish what we started. And because so many millions of people are counting on us, we will invest an additional $1 billion over the next decade to do exactly that.
Without a cure, 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancera devastating disease with physical, emotional, psychological and financial pain that can last a lifetime.
