A Pink Party: Sat, July 12

At Phat Thai in Carbondale with a percentage of the door cover donated to Komen Aspen. Featuring fun pink drinks and a DJ, feather boas are strongly encouraged, and “Save the Boobs” T-shirts will be available. For more information, contact 2008 Race Chair Leann Katchuk, 309-3263.

Walk-up registration is available starting Monday, July 14 at the following locations:

Breast Cancer Surgery and Breast Reconstruction book-signing and discussion

Dr. W. Jason Martin, Aspen Institute of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery and Dr. Carolyn Kaelin, Harvard Medical School surgeon, author and breast cancer survivor will host a book signing and informal discussion, “Breast Cancer Surgery and Breast Reconstruction.

In addition, on Wednesday & Thursday, July 16-17, Dr. Martin and Aspen Institute of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery will donate one hundred percent of the proceeds from all clinic Botox treatments to Komen Aspen, 9am-5pm, a $500 value. Call 970-544-0500 to make an appointment.


I Am the Cure™ Leader Workshops: Wednesday, July 16 | 6–9pm | FREE

Held at Dance Progressions, 403 AABC on Wednesday, July 16th from 6-9pm. For more information, call Heather Starr-Kallas at 544-9771. All Cure Leaders will receive a T-shirt and the use of megaphones, pennants, hand fans, and other supplies to help cheer on Race participants. There will also be an “I Am the Cure” education tent at Rio Grande Park on Race day.


Shop for the Cure™ Ralph Lauren Cocktail Reception: Wednesday, July 16 | 6–8pm

501 East Cooper Avenue, will host a cocktail Shop for the Cure™ reception on Wednesday, July 16th, 6-8pm. For more information, call 970-925-5147. The week leading up to the Race, participating retailers will donate 5-15% of a particular day’s receipts to Komen Aspen as part of the national Shop for the Cure® series. Participating Aspen retailers will be easily identified by their creative window displays.

Tough Enough to Wear Pink™ Rodeo: Sat, July 17

Gus Darien Riding Arena, Carbondale, 6:30pm for Breast Cancer Survivors; Free admission for Survivors, $8/adults—10% of the gate to benefit Komen Aspen. BBQ: Free for Survivors, $7 general public. 

A partnership event with the Carbondale Wild West Rodeo and Wrangler’s “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” series The 6:30pm reception for all valley survivors and their families will include food, drink, and pink bandanas. Race for the Cure®: Saturday, July 19

The Komen Aspen Race for the Cure® 5K co-ed, run/fitness walk will begin and end at Rio Grande Park, Saturday, July 19, 2008, starting at 8:30am. Register now through July 17th: online at www.komenaspen.org for $30, via the paper registration form for $35 or the day of the event for $40. Registration includes an official 2008 Race T-shirt. Other activities at the park include a one-mile PAWS for the Cure™ dog walk and Family Fun Walk, and the free Komen Kids® 100-Yard Dash Fun Run for kids 12 and under with a great silent auction, awards, prizes, music, refreshments, and more.

Bus for the Cure
Komen Aspen has partnered with the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) to create a Bus for the Cure service that will offer Free bus fare to down valley Race participants who show either their on-line registration receipt or Race bib to the bus driver. Save gas, skip traffic and parking fees and Bus for the Cure compliments of RFTA.

I Am the Cure™
The I Am the Cure™ activist program is open to people of all ages who aren’t necessarily interested in running or walking, but who would like to help in another way.  All Cure Leaders receive a T-shirt and the use of megaphones, pennants, hand fans, and other supplies to help cheer on Race participants. There will also be an “I Am the Cure” education tent at Rio Grande Park on Race day.

I Vote for the Cure™
More than 90 percent of voters want the federal government to pay more attention to breast cancer research, screening, and early detection and access to quality care for all.  Therefore, Komen Aspen is challenging presidential candidates this election season to address three achievable goals that will save lives and help end breast cancer forever: increase research investment, fund the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program, and ensure quality treatment for all. A voter registration booth will be available at this year’s Race for the Cure event. Visit www.IVotefortheCure.org.
