Local Resources

Thanks to the generosity of donors and sponsors, our Affiliate is able to fund many breast-health and breast cancer-related programs in our service area of Pitkin, Eagle and Garfield counties and in Colorado. Below is a list of local resources statewide, Komen Aspen's grantees are additional great resources to consider.

1. Aspen Cancer Survivor Center-  Our mission is to optimize the quality of life of cancer survivors. Aspen Cancer provides scientifically based fitness programming, nutritional guidance, mental health services and one-on-one coaching in a caring, personal and professional environment. In addition Aspen Cancer manages a breast cancer support group that focus of the group is a celebration of life. Special topics related to breast cancer treatment and survivorship are discussed in friendly sisterhood enviornment. www.aspencancer.org or 970.920.5836

2. Colorado Breast Cancer Resource Directory- Published by Day of Caring for Breast Cancer Awareness, this Directory provides breast cancer-related information on support groups, resources, organizations, books, product suppliers and so forth. The Directory is available in both English and Spanish.  www.breastcancercolorado.org

3. Cancer League of Colorado-  is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization that raises money to fund early-stage cancer research in Colorado and to support local service organizations. Research funds are allocated based upon the advice of a Scientific Advisory Committee. Funds are raised from an annual golf tournament, gift wrapping at Park Meadows Shopping Center and a Spring Benefit. We also maintain a Memorial Garden at the Anschutz Cancer Pavilion on the Fitzsimons Campus in Aurora, Colorado. info@cancerleague.org 303-292-8065

4. Colorado Organization for Latina Opporuntiy and Reproductive Rights (COLOR)- COLOR provides advocacy, education and works on public policy issues for Latinas in the areas of HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Breast and Cervical Cancer, Sexuality Education and Family Planning and Contraception. We also provide technical assistance to health care providers about the importance of using cultural proficient practices in the delivery of health care to Latinas. info@colorlatina.org 303-393-0382

5. Healthlinks Clinic- Healthlinks is a non-profit clinical center which is affiliated with the Universtiy of Colorado in Boulder. We specialize in medically supervised exercise prescription and programs for cancer survivors, lymphedema therapy and cancer rehabilitation. Physical fitness and exercise are vital components of cancer recovery and well-being. Exercise improves tolerance to treatment and cardiovascular and skeletal health. Exercise can reduce the risk of primary cancer and cancer recurrence. Additional services include nutritional assessment and counseling, cancer risk evaluation including genetic testing, and medical oncology second opinions. www.healthlinksclinic.com 303-443-1937

6. Pathfinders- An innovative program which, through its team of healthcare professionals, assists and supports breast cancer patients and their families from diagnosis through treatment to resolution for people in the Roaring Fork Valley.  www.pathfindersforcancer.org 970-925-1225

7. Rocky Mountain Team Survivor- Rocky Mountain Team Survivor is a non-profit organization for women cancer survivors in Colorado. All breast cancer survivors are welcome to join us for physical fitness, support, and FUN! We promote a healthy active lifestyle, and provide numerous activities such as hiking, biking, walking, weight training, snow shoeing, swimming, fishing, and triathlon training and participation. 8. Colorado Department of Public Health & Envivornment- Colorado Women's Cancer Control Inititave (CWCCI)- Offers free breast and cervical cancer screening for eligible women, public education and outreach and health care provider education. www.womenswellnessconnection.org 866-951-9355 or 303-692-2581

9. Western Colorado Casting for Recovery- Casting for Recovery is a national non-profit support and educational program for women who have or have had breast cancer. We provide an opportunity for women whose lives have been profoundly affected by the disease to gather in a beautiful, natural setting and learn fly-fishing, "a sport for life." Just as importantly, we offer an opportunity to meet new friends and have fun. Our weekend retreats incorporate counseling, educational services and the sport of fly-fishing to promote mental and physical healing. www.castingforrecovery.org 888-553-3500
